Rene' Moase / Artist Statement

In discovering the art of Chinese brush painting, I have found my ideal form of expression. As in freestyle Chinese and Sumi-e painting, I am conscious of maintaining simplicity, space in composition and expression. These elements translate well in applying them to western-style painting. I love the calm technique involved in capturing the spontaneity and essence of the subject. Whether working with ink, watercolor or printmaking my goal is to maintain powerful color, freedom and vigor in each piece.
